This result means that at the halfway point of the semester, the student is performing at an 80.6% average across all graded work. From here, the remaining assignments will either push the final grade up or pull it down depending on future performance.

If you are sitting at 80% and want to finish the semester with a B+ (87%), you now know exactly how much improvement is needed in the second half. Students who check their midterm standing regularly make better decisions about where to invest study time. If your grade is strong going into the second half, you have more flexibility. If it is weaker than expected, you can prioritize the remaining high-weight assignments before it is too late to recover.
This calculator accepts points earned and points possible for each item, which works for both points-based and percentage-based grading systems. If your course uses percentages (for example, "Quiz 1: 85%"), simply enter the percentage as points earned out of 100. The calculation works either way because the ratio is what matters.
If different assessments are worth different amounts, the larger-point items naturally carry more weight in this calculator's result. A 100-point midterm exam has ten times the influence on your average as a 10-point quiz — which is exactly how a points-based course works.
Do not mix percentages and raw points in the same calculation. If one item was scored as 85/100 and another as 17/20, enter both in their original point form. Entering 85 and 17 would produce a misleading average because the point scales are different.
Also, only include assessments that have been graded and returned. Do not enter zeroes for upcoming assignments — this would drag your current standing down and give a misleading picture of where you actually stand at the midpoint of the semester.
